Oral Hygiene and Dental Cleaning
Preventing tooth decay, gum disease, and other dental health problems begins at home with a proper oral hygiene routine. Our experienced team at Colorado Dental Arts provides routine professional dental cleanings and examinations to ensure your teeth and gums are in optimal health, but without proper and consistent home care during the rest of the year, you may still be prone to cavities and periodontal disease.
Your Role in Oral Hygiene
Your basic oral hygiene routine at home should include brushing at least twice a day – ideally after every meal – and flossing at least once a day. Flossing is one of the most overlooked steps in daily dental hygiene, but it is incredibly important. Floss helps remove food debris and plaque from the areas your toothbrush cannot reach.
Some patients may need to take additional steps at home in order to improve specific oral health problems. During your routine oral hygiene and general dentistry visits to our office, we will discuss any further action you should take based on the results of your exams.
The Importance of Bi-Annual Dental Visits
Many people mistakenly assume that as long as they practice good oral hygiene at home, there is no need to go to the dentist twice a year. On the contrary, your at-home routine is not capable of completely cleaning every bit of plaque and tartar off your teeth. Over time, debris will build up and heighten your risk of gum disease and tooth decay.
When you visit our office for your regular check-up, our friendly, experienced hygienists will thoroughly clean and polish your teeth, giving you a fresh smile and the confidence that your oral health is in good hands.
As necessary, our dentists will perform routine examinations during these appointments, which may include:
- Digital x-rays
- Hands-on evaluations to detect common dental issues
- Oral cancer screenings
